The award was presented to Klein at the Houston\u2019s Best Awards ceremony Saturday night at the House of Blues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t know he had been nominated so it was a great surprise,\u201d says Scott Merovitch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Chesmar Homes. \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to see him recognized for all of the marvelous things he does in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GHBA Benefit Home Project, which supports Texas Children\u2019s Cancer Center, Alzheimer Association and HomeAid Houston, has seen significant and exciting changes since Don Klein and Chesmar\u2019s arrival. Chesmar is the only builder to have turned out three benefit homes in three year\u2019s time. Since Klein stepped in as Chairman of the GHBA Benefit Home Project in 2008, he has been instrumental in bringing other builders and developers into the project. For the first time, in 2009, there are 3 homes built for the benefit project, one of which has sold. Klein is also involved in Mayor White\u2019s Houston Hope-LARA Project constructing five affordable homes in Acres Homes. The project is committed to improve blighted communities by offering down payment assistance programs to subsidized renters. Additionaliy, he has participated and solicited contributions for countless charities including the GHBA Scholarship Fund, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the MS150 in which he rides with his team every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon recently agreed to partner with the Texas Children\u2019s Hospital Heal Sick Children campaign to donate a portion of the proceeds from each closed home from September through November to the cause,\u201d said Donna Newcomb, Marketing Director for Chesmar. \u201cWe Chesmar associates are very proud of his benevolence!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2009 has been a banner year for the 4-year old company and its owner, as Don Klein and Chesmar was also awarded Builder of the Year by GHBA. Chesmar Homes builds all around the Houston area, offering three different home series in fourteen communities, priced fi\u00b7om the $140s to the $300s.
