Chesmar Homes along with the\u00a0Helping a Hero Foundation were proud to give retired\u00a0\u00a0Marine Sergeant Ron Sullivan the keys to his customized, brand-new home out in our Riata community in Schertz, TX.\u00a0\u00a0While on patrol in Afghanistan, Ron lost both legs to an IED device on August 23, 2010.<\/p>\n
Full deserving of his home, Chesmar Homes was honored \u00a0to build a place to call home for Ron. Knowing how Ron\u00a0Sullivan, 24, loves to cook, Chesmar ensured that his new disability would not deter him from enjoying this. Ron\u2019s kitchen is\u00a0fully customized-from low countertops,\u00a0low appliances allowing him to reach anything from his wheelchair, to a roll under sink, everything was done to help Ron feel at home.\u00a0\u00a0The four bedroom also included wider doors, a roll-in shower, a ramp to his garage,\u00a0and a cement path alongside his backyard, allowing him to fully enjoy his outdoor space. The way Chesmar designed the home to accomodate Ron\u2019s needs was evident; the home became certified under the American with Disabilities Act.<\/p>\n
Meredith Iler, founder and National Chairman for Helping a Hero said \u201cWhen they\u2019re injured it\u2019s really almost the ending of one dream so I think the home gives them hope.\u201d Chesmar was extremely excited and honored to be part of such positive outlook. When Ron finally received his house keys, he said \u00a0\u201cThis is the next step. It\u2019s exciting,\u201d<\/p>\n
