Funds are raised for HomeAid through the GHBA Benefit Homes Project, a 39-year-old charity fundraiser that has raised more than $11 million since its inception. HomeAid has received over $700,000 from the GHBA Benefit Homes Project since becoming a beneficiary in 2007.<\/p>\n
Each year, two to three homes are built for the fundraiser with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members. The homes are sold at market value and proceeds benefit HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.<\/p>\n
The homes are constructed on donated homesites and are finished out with numerous upgrades and amenities.<\/p>\n
The Benefit Homes Project builders in 2019 are Chesmar Homes, which sold its home in April in NorthGrove; M\/I Homes, which sold its home in November in the community of Bridgeland; and HistoryMaker Homes, which is building its home in Sierra Vista. Chesmar, M\/I Homes and HistoryMaker donated the construction management and the developers, Toll Brothers, the Howard Hughes Corp. and Land Tejas donated the homesites.<\/p>\n
\u201cGHBA members continue to embrace HomeAid through what they do best, building and selling beautiful homes,\u201d said Patrick Mayhan, president of HomeAid. \u201cThese inspiring companies and individuals understand that with their help, we are able to bring hope to our community\u2019s most vulnerable populations. We can\u2019t thank the builders, developers, vendors and trades enough for all they\u2019ve done and continue to do for our cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs part of GHBA\u2019s service to our members, we also are committed to giving back to the community,\u201d said John Williams, president of GHBA. \u201cPartnering with dozens of builder\/developer teams and vendors and trades over the past 39 years has made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We are proud to be able to facilitate this great endeavor.\u201d<\/p>\n
HomeAid Houston has been building transformational housing for homeless care agencies throughout Houston and surrounding counties since 2003. The first shelter was dedicated in 2005. Since then, 54 projects have been completed that have added $14.2 million in real estate value to Houston\u2019s homeless community, including $7.2 million worth of donated materials and labor from generous GHBA builders and their trades. These projects have served more than 22,000 homeless men, women, children and vets in our city.<\/p>\n
